I've been doing something this year that I heard about from Lori Jones at Nixa, so it's not original with me. Instead of having an assignment book I bought composition notebooks. At the end of every subject/lesson I have the kids write a sentence about what they learned. At the end of the day they write one good thing about today. It gives the parents more information than an assignment book and makes the kids reflect on what we've just done. Some of the kids do better than others, but overall I'm very pleased and do not plan to buy assignment books again.
I am hoping to start science notebooking next year. I never got it going this year the way I wanted. I'd like to do more with math journals, but I'm not sure how to fit it in with everything. When should you do it? How often? How does it fit with computation time, problem solving and Investigations.

Hi there!
I have heard a lot of teachers talk about utilizing learning logs in
their classrooms, and it's something I'd be interested in learning a
little more about. Does any one have any websites or know of any
resources about implementing learning logs in the classroom?
More specifically...
How do you incorporate them into the daily routine?
What do you write in a learning log?
Is there a standard format or a template to use?
This is something I am thinking about for next year. Thanks in
advance!
Josh
