[eMINTS] attaching sound

Ms. Glass,

To insert sound in a PPT, try the following:

On the Menu Bar, click on Insert>Movies and Sounds>Sound from File. Choose the .mp3, .wav, or .aiff file you wish to play during the slide show. You will see a picture of a speaker (or something like it) which indicates it is a sound on the slide. The computer may ask you if you want the sound to start Automatically or when Clicked. Choose either--depending on your needs.

No wonder you're having difficulty!!! I just tried it in Office 2003 and the process is IMPOSSIBLE!!!! Grrrrr.

Now, back to the show. When you inserted the sound, a "Custom Animation" window should have appeared on the right. If it didn't, go up to Slide Show>Custom Animation to get it.

If you want the sound to play in the background, make sure the icon is selected (with the handles visible--the little squares in the corners). In the "Custom Animation" window, right-click on the filename of the sound you inserted and go to Effect Options.

You will want the following:
° Effects Tab>Start Playing>From Beginning
° Effects Tab>Stop Playing>After ### slides (make sure the number you enter is more than the number of slides you have. It can be 900 slides--even if you only have 3.
° Sound Settings Tab>Display Options>Hide sound icon during slide show.

On the Timing tab, you can delay the start of the sound file.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, Microsoft has made it nearly impossible to customize sound or video. Not sure if they've simplified it yet in newer versions of the program. Seems like every time they "improve" their software, great features become impossible to use in the effort to make them more "user friendly."

I hope this helps. If not, please feel free to contact me directly, and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Subject: [eMINTS] attaching sound

I am trying some new things this summer and one of them is attaching sound to some of the presentations like Powerpoint. I got an account from Royalty Free Music and am anxious to use it. I can't seem to figure out how to attach it to the presentations. Also, I found some free music on Incomptech that looked interesting. I was wondering if anybody has used that. Thanks.
