Hi Julie,
I'm not sure about your configuration but I use two jacks.  They allow you to insert two microphones into the one outlet.  We use headsets-with-microphones, so we have two jacks, insert one jack onto the headphone outlet for the headphone leads from the two headsets and the other jack onto the microphone outlet for the microphone leads from the two headsets.  Then both students can record and listen at the same time.  (I hope this makes sense because that is really hard to explain?!)

I am trying to hook to microphones to my computer so that two kids can record a conversation.  I have a lapel mic that I have hooked into the back of my CPU and I have a headset that is hooked into a usb port on the front.  I'm using Audacity to record.

After I record I can listen to the recording using the headset put the lapel mic sound is much lower.  If I unhook the headset and try to listen to the recording, I do not hear anything.

Any hints?
