[eMINTS] recording devices

I am trying to hook to microphones to my computer so that two kids can record a conversation.  I have a lapel mic that I have hooked into the back of my CPU and I have a headset that is hooked into a usb port on the front.  I'm using Audacity to record.  

After I record I can listen to the recording using the headset put the lapel mic sound is much lower.  If I unhook the headset and try to listen to the recording, I do not hear anything.  

Any hints?
