eMINTS Teachers,
e-Learning for Educators (www.elearningmo.org
<http://www.elearningmo.org/> ) is still looking for Missouri educators
to participate in our research study. There have been some changes to
the research plan that may make participation more of a possibility for
teachers. The most significant change is that participating educators
will receive a $300.00 stipend for their work. In addition, we are also
no longer requiring that a group of teachers from a single school
participate; individual teachers are welcome to join the study.
I've included an informational letter below about the study - please
share this opportunity with other educators in your district. The only
requirement for participation is that you be a Missouri educator who
teaches 4th grade English Language Arts (ELA), 5th grade Math, 7th grade
ELA, or 8th grade Math.
Participating educators can have a self-contained classroom as long as
they include one of the above content areas in their curriculum.
Non-eMINTS teachers are also encouraged to participate in the study.
Feel free to give me a call or email me if you have any questions,

Dear Educator,
The Missouri Department of Secondary and Elementary Education is proud
to partner with the e-Learning for Educators Initiative, a federally
funded program involving eight states. The goal of this initiative is to
establish an effective and sustainable model of online professional
development that will address teacher needs and improve student
achievement. Part of this initiative involves partnering with Boston
College to conduct a research study evaluating the effectiveness of
online professional development.
Please share this opportunity with your colleagues. We invite all
Missouri 4th grade English Language Arts (ELA), 5th grade Math, 7th
grade ELA, and 8th grade Math teachers to participate in this study. .
Participating teachers will be randomly assigned to either the
experimental group or the control group. Benefits for participation
include:
* $300 stipend upon completion of all surveys and tests
* Free professional development
* Instant feedback on student performance
* Graduate credit available for e-Learning courses at the reduced
rate.
Teachers in both the experimental group and the control group will take
a series of online surveys and administer a series of online tests to
their students. Teachers receive instant feedback about student
performance from these tests, which can be used to inform future
instruction.
Teachers in the experimental group will also participate in a series of
three online professional development workshops in either ELA or Math,
free of charge. These workshops focus on both content knowledge and
pedagogical practices, offering information and techniques that you can
directly apply in your classroom. The workshops are targeted towards
subjects where students tend to struggle, and are based on state and
national standards. Teachers in the control group will have access to
three free e-Learning courses upon completion of the study.
Missouri State University, the University of Missouri - Kansas City and
the University of Missouri St. Louis agree to offer graduate credit for
these courses. The courses can be taken for 2 credit hours per course at
the reduced rate of $100.00 per credit hour.
Please visit the research study website for a detailed description of
the research courses or to register for the study: www.bc.edu/efe.
We look forward to working with you,
Christie Terry
